The Chief Information Officer oversees campus IT initiatives & projects, cybersecurity, policy, research cyberinfrastructure and communication between college and department IT offices. The office includes a Chief Data Officer, Chief Information Security Officer and a Research Computing coordinator.
Michael Lehman is the interim chief information officer at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison.
He is also a special advisor to the chancellor overseeing a comprehensive review of campus information technology (IT) governance.
Lehman most recently served as interim vice chancellor for finance and administration until Laurent Heller was hired in August 2016. Before that, he was the first chief financial officer of both Palo Alto Networks and Arista Networks, and oversaw their preparation to become public companies. Earlier in his career, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sun Microsystems. He is leading a review of campus IT, including the IT funding model, budget and services in his current role as special advisor.
