Identity Finder Software Download
Identity Finder is a Windows and Macintosh software package that helps end users locate restricted data (aka personal identifying information) on your machine. The application searches selected areas of your computer for restricted information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, etc. that may exist in files, emails, network drives, databases. Once the information is found, remediation steps, such as secure deletion or encryption, can be taken.
The Identity Finder software is available for download only to UW-Madison faculty and staff with a valid NetID and password. Identity Finder software is free, and includes free updates for as long as you are affiliated with the university.
Faculty and Staff
Work computers: Check with your department IT administrator before installing Identity Finder on your work computer.
Personal or home computers: Please visit the Campus Software Library (requires UW NetID) for both Windows and Mac versions of Identity Finder, as well as installation instructions and other documentation. These downloads are appropriate for personal or home computers but should not be installed on work computers.

There are three service levels available to reduce the loss of restricted data. See the Data Discovery service page to determine which option fits your needs.
