Why do we have to do Cybersecurity Awareness Training annually?

Similar to the annual Sexual Harassment training, Cybersecurity Awareness Training is part of your employment obligation and is required per the UW System Board of Regents (see UW System Administrative Policy 1032 Information Security: Awareness).

When do I have to have this completed?

For 2021, you should complete your cybersecurity awareness training by June 30. However, please feel free to keep playing the game.

How long will it take me to complete the training?

If you choose to do it in one sitting, it should take approximately 25 minutes. If you choose to answer questions each day, it would take you approximately 21 days (at about 1-2 minutes a day).

How will I know when I've completed my training?

You will have completed the 2021 annual Cybersecurity Awareness Training when you have earned two related badges in your training dashboard. Your badges are earned by:

  1. Reading and acknowledging the UWSA Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy in the training platform. Once completed, you will earn the Acceptable Use Policy badge.
  2. Answering the next 20 questions in the training module. This provides you with the 2021 Cybersecurity Awareness Training badge. Earning both badges will complete your requirement.

I completed my cybersecurity training through my department/at another UW System campus. Do I have to complete this training too?

If you’ve taken Cybersecurity training at another campus or in another department within the fiscal year, you do not have to take this training. Please send email a copy of your completion certificate to cybersecurityawareness@cio.wisc.edu and you will be removed from the Cybersecurity  Awareness Training for UW–Madison.

My email address isn’t recognized. What do I do?

Make sure you’re using your preferred UW–Madison email account that was included in your “Welcome” email. If you still have issues accessing the training, click on the “Forgot Password” link and set up a new password.

How can I reset my password?

This training platform does not use your NetID to log in, so your password will need to be reset on the platform. There are a couple ways to do this. Whichever way you change it, please make sure that your password for this training is different from your NetID password.

  1. To change your password in the platform:
    1. Click on the drop down arrow near your name in the upper right corner.
    2. Select “Profile Settings.”
    3. Under “Change Password,” enter your current password and whatever you would like your new password to be.
    4. Save your new password by clicking the “Save Changes” button.
  2. If you have a temporary password, you will need to change it the next time you log in.
  3. You can also use the “Forgot Password” link on the login page if you have forgotten your current password.

How do I access the training when my temporary password isn't working?

Click on the “Forgot Password” link on the login page to access the training.

How do I change my picture on the platform?

  1. Click on the drop down arrow near your name in the upper right corner.
  2. Select “Profile Settings.” This will open a screen with your current image.
  3. Below the image, click on “Change Avatar.”
  4. Select from the available avatars.
  5. Click “Save Avatar.”

How can I remove myself from the Leaderboard?

  1. Click on the drop down arrow near your name in the upper right corner.
  2. Go to “Profile Settings.”
  3. At the bottom of the page, you will see “Leaderboard Visibility.” Slide the button to the left to remove yourself from the Leaderboard.
  4. Click on the red “Save Changes” button.

I use a screen reader, is the platform ADA compliant?

At this time, the platform is not ADA compliant. For more information on the accessibility and usability of the platform and how to get assistance or report an accessibility barrier, see the Security Awareness Accessibility & Usability Information KB. There is also an alternative version of this training on Canvas that is ADA compliant. You can access the Canvas Cybersecurity Awareness Training on April 30.

How do I find a past question?

There is a question archive where you can find questions you answered correctly and incorrectly. If you click on one of the questions, you can see your answer and read more about the correct answer when you click on the question mark button below the question.

Will I get the same question more than once?

It is not highly likely that you will get the same identical question again. However, you may get a very similar question.

Can I correct a “wrong answer”?

There is no need to correct a wrong answer. “Wrong Answers” are opportunities to learn. In the future, a similar question may appear, and you’ll then have the opportunity to answer it correctly.

Does everyone get the same questions?

There is a pool of questions that are available to everyone. You will have the same questions but on different days.

If I found something that is broken or an error in the platform, how do I report that?

Contact the DoIT Help Desk at (608) 264-4357 or via email at help@doit.wisc.edu.
