The Request for Proposal (RFP) phase of the Endpoint Management & Security Project has concluded and tools in the following categories were selected for further consideration:
- Endpoint Management Solutions – tools to deploy, monitor and manage endpoints
- Endpoint Security Solutions – tools to protect endpoints from malware and other threats
- Mobile Device Management Solutions – tools to protect mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones, manage security tools on them, and monitor threats to them.
Multiple tools may be purchased, depending on the needs of campus IT units and contract details. The project team is in the process of negotiating purchase contracts for specific products. Cybersecurity will be reaching out to gather information about your current endpoint management tools, use cases, and scope to help guide contracting decisions. Symantec Endpoint Protection: License Expiring
Licensing for Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) will end on 6/24/2020 for the student license and 8/6/2020 for the faculty and staff license. Devices using SEP will need to transition to another anti-virus solution. For most UW-owned devices, we recommend Cisco AMP.
For endpoint security on personally owned devices and other use cases, we are currently evaluating options and will send out a general recommendation in the near future. Please let Cybersecurity (email@example.com) know if you have use cases for which AMP is not a suitable replacement.
Cisco’s Advanced Malware Protection is available now
One of the Endpoint Security solutions is, Cisco’s Advanced Malware Protection (AMP). It has already been purchased for campus by UW-System and is available for immediate use. AMP is intended to be deployed to most UW-owned devices by departmental IT staff and can replace Symantec anti-virus software. If you are an IT administrator and would like an AMP account for your group, please follow these instructions.
