Here is a list of essential and recommended technology you will want to have on campus. These and other academically discounted products are available to you at the DoIT Tech Store.
Most students use a laptop on campus. If you plan on bringing an existing laptop with you, compare it to our campus laptop recommendations. Or take advantage of our suggested laptops for students from the Tech Store. For more information, we always recommend you work with our Tech Store staff or consult our DoIT Tech Store Buyer’s Guide.
Campus requires all computers connected to the campus network to have anti-virus protection. Get your free antivirus software from DoIT. (Login required)
We always recommend you backup your data. Some options for this are using an external drive or an online backup service like Crashplan. Tech Store staff can help you decide which option is best for you or consult our Backup and Storage page.
You’ll find a wide variety of discounted audio, video and network cables to connect your electronic devices at the Tech Store.
Extended hardware warranty
The DoIT Help Desk can provide on-campus warranty repairs. We recommend that you have a good warranty with accidental protection. To learn more about options for your devices talk to our Tech Store staff or consult our Warranty Information.
Sleeves and cases
Products to protect your computer from spills and falls are available at the DoIT Tech Store along with a wide range of additional technology accessories.
There are many printing options around campus, but you may find that you prefer the convenience and quick access to printed materials from your own printer. See our recommended printers, or get more information from our DoIT Tech Store Buyer’s Guide.
For more robust wireless access or to connect multiple devices to your residence hall network, you may want to consider a personal wireless network router. We have recommended wireless routers available at the Tech Store, or see our DoIT Tech Store Buyer’s Guide.
You may find that many of your campus courses provide classroom materials digitally. Using a tablet as a mobile device can help give you immediate access to these materials in the classroom. See our recommended tablets or get more information from our DoIT Tech Store Buyer’s Guide.
