In early 2019, DoIT Tech Store operations were assessed by a cross-campus advisory team and work group comprising DoIT staff and campus partners. This team and group found that our current business model is not sustainable given the competitive technology retail environment and that the University would be best served through a reconfiguration of our services. Based on these recommendations, DoIT is implementing several significant changes, including closing the DoIT Tech Store and shifting how we provide Help Desk and repair services.

Learn how to purchase items previously sold through the DoIT Tech Store. Some of these processes are temporary in nature and this page will be updated regularly to reflect changes in the processes as they occur.
Currently the best method of ordering Apple Computers is through direct purchase via P-Card through Apple. We are working to get Apple added as a punchout vendor to Shop@UW and expect that process to be completed within the month of August. There is a NASPO contract (505ENT-O16-NASPOCOMPUT-10) available through DOA which allows for the purchase of Microsoft hardware by UW-Madison departments.
This price list includes some better-negotiated pricing for WI Higher Ed institutions than that listed in the NASPO contract, particularly for the new Microsoft “Go” products. You can still use the NASPO contract for procurement authority but please be sure to obtain our negotiated pricing (or better) rather than the list price on the NASPO contract. It is always allowable to negotiate better pricing (on any contract at any time, UW, DOA, or anyone else’s contract) if you are able to do so, and to continue to use the underlying contract for procurement authority.

All VoIP products have been moved to Shop@UW for purchase with an MD#. Please search for “Cisco” or “VoIP” for the best results.
MFA is being supported by the DoIT Walk-in Help Desk. Anyone needing a replacement or new FOB can purchase one there.
Shop@UW should be your first stop for peripheral purchases as they offer many peripheral items through several contracted vendors.
Primary peripheral vendors are Staples and Dell. You can order with your MD# through these vendors. B&H Photo is also available as an external supplier through Shop@UW (you will need to use a P-card as with all external suppliers). For items not listed on those sites, third party vendors such as CDW-G, NewEgg and Amazon are available for P-Card users but they should be a last resort. Shop@UW is working on adding former Tech Store suppliers as additional vendors. They will cover most products that you would likely need and reduce the need to go to external vendors.

Memory is available through the Staples and Dell punchouts on Shop@UW, payment with your MD#. B&H Photo also has RAM but as they are an external supplier, you will need a procurement card to order.
If you need help picking memory machine, your first step should be the Crucial configurator at Crucial.com. Select “Upgrade your device” and proceed through the steps. Once you see a list of compatible products, copy the bolded part number and search with that on your vendor of choice. Do not use the Configuration ID.
We are still able to provide departmental licensing. Titles such as Endnote, Parallels, and Microsoft Select licenses can be purchased using a D# in the Tech Store Catalog.

Here are answers to questions you might have about the Tech Store closing and changes to the Help Desk and repair services.
Q: Will payroll deduction still be available during the Tech Store closeout?
Yes, payroll deduction is available on eligible items until the close of the Tech Store.
Q: Can orders be placed today for pickup after the Tech Store closes?
No, we will not be placing any new equipment orders. Sales are limited to inventory in stock.
Q: Will the Tech Store accept returns on products?
No, unfortunately all sales must be final.
Q: When does the DoIT Tech Store officially close its doors?
The DoIT Tech Store closes on Friday, June 7, 2019.
Q: Where can I buy VoIP products?
VoIP products will be available via our ecommerce site, https://shop.techstore.wisc.edu/, until they can be transitioned to Shop@UW. We expect that transition to occur in a few weeks.
Q: Can I still buy class notes?
ClassNotes will continue via our ecommerce site, https://shop.techstore.wisc.edu/, through June 28, 2019.

UW Purchasing Services is working on guidance on options for university hardware purchases.
Q: May I still get my computer repaired at DoIT?
Right now the answer is yes. We are evaluating this service and will share changes with campus as it evolves.
Q: Will I still be able to recycle my old personal computer equipment at DoIT?
Yes, the DoIT Help Desk will continue to accept equipment for recycling.
Q: Will Help Desk services change?
Students will see no change to Help Desk support through walk-in, phone, web and chat options. The Help Desk will continue to support faculty and staff on UW–Madison licensed IT applications and services on personal or departmentally owned devices. The Help Desk will no longer be able to offer general support for personally owned devices for faculty, staff, emeriti and retirees.
Q: Will rental computers still be available for students during the semester?
We will continue to offer the program for students until we have a different path for this service. We are exploring options for the computer rental program and have not made a decision at this time.
Q: Will the Help Desk continue to be a provider of Local Registration Authority (LRA) credentials?
Yes, this service will continue to be provided by the Help Desk.
Q: What software options will be available?
The Campus Software Library will continue to provide access to university-licensed software for faculty, staff, and students.
