The only requirements for being a mentor or a mentee are:

  • A commitment to meet regularly with your match for the next year
  • A willingness to collaborate in creating the best possible mentoring relationship for both sides

Additional training on mentorship is being developed.

In addition, please mark your calendars for our in-person kickoff meeting on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Union South. Lunch will be provided!

Why should I become a mentor?

  • You’ve been in the IT field for a while and want to share your experience and knowledge with someone just starting out.
  • You enjoy helping others set career goals, work through challenges and develop professional skills.
  • You’re looking to expand your network or escape your silo.
  • You benefited from mentorship in the past and want to give back to others who need help.

Why should I become a mentee?

  • You’re new to campus or the IT field and want some personalized guidance.
  • You’re interested in transitioning to a different specialty but don’t know where to start.
  • You’re stuck in a silo and struggling to network.
  • You need a sounding board for work challenges that you haven’t been able to work out on your own.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this opportunity further, please email the Steering Team at uwitmentoring@cio.wisc.edu.
