Box, one of UW–Madison’s enterprise cloud-storage vendors, recently notified us that they are changing their pricing structure. This change may result in a significant cost increase beginning January 2021.
We recognize that Box is heavily integrated into UW–Madison’s research, academic and administrative activities, and believe the core needs of faculty, staff and students who use the service must inform the strategy for responding to Box licensing changes. Accordingly, we are assembling a task force charged with evaluating our storage footprint in Box and developing strategies to address the licensing changes. Please do not take action on Box accounts until the task force has formulated a campus strategy and approach to these Box changes.
In the coming weeks, the task force will offer listening sessions to gather use cases from across campus to help inform recommendations for the future state of this storage service. We invite you to share your use cases and provide input by joining a listening session or completing the Box Evaluation Survey.
