Locked Phone

How secure is your smartphone?

Most of us realize the need to download virus prevention software (like free antivirus software) to protect data on our computers, but how savvy are you in protecting the information on your smartphone or mobile device?

If you consider how many times you or a friend have “misplaced” a cell phone or other mobile device, you know how easy it is for your data to end up in the wrong hands.

Fortunately, most mobile devices come with some security features that help protect your data, such as using a pin number to lock access. While using a pin is a smart step in preventing friends or family from snooping, it won’t protect your phone from viruses or hackers.

Try these simple steps to protect data on your mobile devices.  Here are some free security apps that you may want to check out for an additional layer of protection.

360 Security (Android) (iOS)
Protects against viruses, malware, system vulnerabilities, junk files and privacy risks. It also cleans up idle apps running in the background and speeds up your phone.

Lookout Security & Antivirus (Android) (iOS)
Offers protection against mobile threats, phone loss and theft. Log into Lookout.com to locate your phone, view your backed up data and manage your devices, anytime, anywhere.

Avast (Android) (iOS)
Protects against unwanted phishing, malware, spyware, and malicious viruses and even against theft and loss. Locates your phone and includes remote lock and memory wipe.
