
Nick Heynen is a communications specialist in DoIT Communications. He specializes in inclusive writing and using plain language to translate complex subjects to broad audiences. He is passionate about using the power of language and digital tools to foster empathy and understanding while advancing equity and justice for people with marginalized identities. He joined DoIT Communications in 2023 after nearly 5 years working in the UW–Madison Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement. Before joining the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Nick was a journalist for 10 years at the Wisconsin State Journal, where he served in a variety of reporting and editing roles and helped shape the newspaper’s digital strategy. Originally from Maryland, Nick earned his bachelor’s degree from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.
