Position title: Director, Application Infrastructure Services
Joe Tarter has over 17 successful years at UW–Madison gaining experience with every facet in the design, development, delivery, and management of a broad set of IT services in support of the higher-education community. Beginning his career with operational‑service support, he has progressed through an evolving role, ultimately becoming a Service Team Leader for several enterprise-scale, business-critical functions, including Identity and Access Management, Campus Active Directory, Calendaring and Scheduling, and List Services. Beginning in 2014, he assumed the role of manager for Integrated Applications, reshaping this group into a dynamic, high-performing team of software engineers using modern tools, services, and techniques. In early 2019, Joe was tasked with serving as Interim Director, Application Infrastructure Services.
Joe has a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology from Texas A&M University. He has completed both the MOR Associates IT Leadership Program and EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program.
