Todd Shechter to become Vice Chancellor for IT at CU Boulder
Todd Shechter, UW–Madison’s Chief Technology Officer, will leave the university to become Vice Chancellor for Information Technology at the University of Colorado Boulder. His last day at UW–Madison is November 13. He starts at CU Boulder on November 16.
Todd joined DoIT in October 2019 and built the CTO office in the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) from scratch. Under his leadership, the office grew its enterprise architecture practice and research cyberinfrastructure teams. During his time at UW–Madison, Todd also:
- Led DoIT’s work on UW–Madison’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) effort
- Brought new thinking to research computing services through the Wisconsin RISE Initiative
- Partnered with Cybersecurity to create programs that balance usability with protecting university assets
- Strengthened partnerships with IT vendors and across distributed and central IT units
- Sponsored and championed the IT Connects initiative, which helps bust silos and develop leaders within the university’s IT community
- Helped create the IT track of the Job Rotation Program for early-career professionals
- Helped to host more than 350 CIO Virtual Office Hours sessions, facilitating informal learning sessions and group discussions with IT professionals from across the university
“Todd built the CTO office from the ground up, and his work has strengthened how we approach enterprise architecture, research computing and cybersecurity,” said Didier Contis, Chief Information Officer and Vice Provost for Information Technology.
“He has been a trusted partner to colleagues across the university, and his leadership has made a lasting impact on our community. We’re proud to see him take on this important role at CU Boulder, and we’re grateful for everything he has done for UW–Madison.”
Todd said he will miss the people of UW–Madison most. He thanked the IT community for its camaraderie, talent and care in serving the university.
“It takes a community of caring and connected professionals working together to help make UW–Madison a great place to study, conduct research, and contribute to a thriving workplace,” he said. “I’m full of gratitude for everyone I’ve met and worked with here over the years.”
Please join us in thanking Todd and wishing him well in Boulder!
