While studying at MIT, researcher Joy Buolamwini discovered that many facial recognition systems couldn’t “see” her face. A dark-skinned woman, Joy soon realized they worked only when she wore a white mask.

Join your IT colleagues for a special screening of Coded Bias, the acclaimed documentary film that follows Joy’s investigation into bias in the systems and algorithms that increasingly shape our daily lives — and her efforts to advance the first-ever U.S. legislation addressing algorithmic bias.
