University websites available using WiscVPN
Websites worldwide are experiencing outages due to security issues affecting PHP, a widely used online programming language. To secure our environment, many university websites and systems are temporarily available only on the campus network or via WiscVPN.
Please note that Canvas is not affected.
What to do
The majority of university websites and applications are available either on the campus network or using the WiscVPN virtual private network.
- If you are on campus, you should be able to access most of these resources. However, in some cases, the vendors have taken them offline to reduce security risks.
- If you are off campus, install WiscVPN to access these same resources.
Vendors are developing patches for these issues as they are identified, and we expect to apply those patches to UW–Madison services and tools as they become available through this week. There will be interruptions to web-based applications and websites as issues are found and repaired.
We recognize that outages like this disrupt students’ studies and impact teaching and learning, research and service activities. We appreciate your patience.
