The Office of Cybersecurity recently announced information about new Apple security vulnerabilities. Departmental Support (DS) has identified an issue that impacts our standard methods to deploy macOS updates that requires the active user to initiate the update. While we continue to follow up with Apple, we are doing the following for impacted systems:
- Enabling automatic update notifications for macOS to provide users information about when OS updates are available.
- Generating a targeted user pop-up through BigFix that the Big Sur 11.6 update is available and should be applied.
We anticipate having these changes available by next Tuesday morning (9/21), during our normal software update window. We will monitor adoption of the 11.6 update throughout the week and will send out additional targeted user notifications as required.
