IT Federation Program phase 2 update: October 2026
Phase 2 of the IT Federation Program is underway, and the first pieces are in place: a Steering Committee, a program roadmap shaped by IT community feedback, and a list of more than 60 people eager to contribute.
In this update, we recap September and October accomplishments, highlight what’s in progress and preview what to expect through December. You’ll also find a quick note for interest-form respondents, a link to our first office hours recording, and an updated office hours schedule.
Change to office hours schedule
Several of you shared that the afternoon slot conflicted with end-of-day commitments such as school pickup, so we will now meet on Tuesdays at 11 a.m., every other month.
If you added the earlier sessions to your calendar, please replace them with the new dates and times:
What we did in September & October
- Published the phase 2 program roadmap — Built on feedback from the DoIT Executive Team, divisional IT directors, and summer sentiment interviews, the new roadmap shows when each workstream and workgroup is active through June 2027. Read the phase 2 overview and view the roadmap.
- Launched the Steering Committee — Co-chaired by Jamie Gutkowski (DoIT) and Pete Boguszewski (School of Education), the Steering Committee kicked off on Sept. 28. This group will advise on phase 2, raise risks and concerns early, and guide the creation of workstream charters and the selection of workgroup members. View the full committee roster.
- Recruited 60+ people interested in working on phase 2 — More than 60 colleagues from over a dozen schools, colleges and divisions stepped forward through nominations and our interest form. Learn how you can get involved.
- Finalized initial workgroup charges and placements – We drafted the Phase 2 workgroup charges and finalized the initial versions with the Steering Committee and sponsor. Initial workgroup placements are complete. Workgroups will review their charges as they kick off and adjust them as needed. Get a detailed view of the phase 2 workstreams.
- Held our first office hours session — More than 40 people from a dozen schools, colleges and divisions attended our first IT Federation office hours session on Sept. 28. The Program Support Team walked through phase 2 plans and then answered questions. If you missed it, watch the office hours presentation recording.
- Other engagements — The Program Support Team also shared Phase 2 updates with ITCCC, the DoIT M-Team, the Center for User Experience, the Deans Council, and the Administrative Council.
What we are working on now
- Inviting people to join workgroups — The Steering Committee and the program team have made the initial workgroup placements, and we are now reaching out to those volunteers to ask them to serve as members or subject matter experts (SMEs). We will continue building out workgroups into November and will share membership and charges as groups are set.
- Kicking off the workstreams — Kickoff meetings are underway or being scheduled. Each kickoff sets working norms, updates the workgroup’s charge, and confirms deliverables and deadlines.
- Supporting divisional IT participation — A portion of phase 2 funds will support staffing in divisional IT units. We’re currently partnering with DTLG as they prepare proposals for how best to use funding for divisional IT involvement in phase 2.
If you filled out the interest form
Thank you! We have reached out with first workgroup assignments. If you have not heard from us yet, you haven’t been passed over. Most of the engagement will come through interviews, surveys, workshops, reviews and pilots over the coming months.
If you’re interested in joining a workgroup and haven’t heard from us yet, please send us an email. We’d like to talk further and explore opportunities to add you to a workgroup roster.
Our goal is to engage with everyone who filled out the interest form during phase 2. Opportunities will continue through July 2027, and we will share specifics with you before anything gets scheduled.
What’s next
- November: We will share the final workgroup charges and membership details, and workgroups will be actively working on their charges. We will provide regular updates on key decisions and progress. Our second office hours session is Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. Add the office hours to your calendar.
- December: Workgroups continue progressing on their deliverables. Look for progress updates in the IT Federation newsletter.
