UW–‍Madison retires Wisconsin mobile app

After over 14 years of operation, UW–‍Madison’s institutional mobile app, the Wisconsin App, is being retired.

Use the app? Here’s what to do

Because the Wisconsin App will no longer receive updates, we recommend discontinuing its use. We’ve created a solution that provides a similar experience.

The webpage Wisconsin Links lists the same resources and features included in the Wisconsin App. We’ll keep this webpage up to date. You can create a link on your phone’s home screen to easily access the website. See these instructions for more details:

Why is the app being retired?

We’d need to completely rewrite our app because of updates to Apple and Google mobile policies and changes in other services. Technology has also evolved. Back in the day, the only way to access certain features was through the Wisconsin App. Today, you can access these same features through mobile-friendly websites and native apps. Once you switch to alternatives, we recommend deleting the app from your device.

This retirement only impacts the Wisconsin App. Other apps such as the UW Athletics’ Badgers app, the UW Police Department’s BadgerSAFE app, UW Guide and various departmental apps will continue to operate without any changes.

End of an era

Launched in 2010 as Mobile UW, the app was a pioneer in academic mobile apps, offering innovative features like interactive campus maps, real-time bus and transportation updates, and other popular services.

Saying goodbye to the Wisconsin App feels like the end of an era. It’s been a great run, but times are changing. We want to keep up with new technology and make sure you get the best service possible.
