Tamara Walker selected as DoIT User Services Director

Tamara Walker has been selected as the User Services Director for the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Tamara will lead the User Services (US) department, which provides help desk support, endpoint support, enterprise software licensing, IT metrics and analytics, and enterprise-scale productivity applications.

Tamara had been the interim director for User Services since November 2018. During that time, she oversaw the restructuring of the US department with the closure of the Tech Store and the integration of the Productivity and Collaborative Solutions (PCS) team.

Prior to her interim assignment, Tamara was an assistant director in Enterprise Internet Services where she led the PCS group for six years. Tamara has also held positions on the DoIT Systems Engineering and Operations IT Service Management team, as well as the User Services Help Desk. In addition to her roles at DoIT, she also held IT positions in the UW–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Athletics.

“Tamara brings over eighteen years of information technology leadership experience to the role of the User Services Director,” said Dave Pagenkopf, Deputy Chief Information Officer. “She has deep knowledge and experience in all functions within User Services. Over the last year, she demonstrated courage, creativity, and collaboration in leading several important changes in User Services. I’m delighted to have Tamara in the permanent position.”

“I’m excited to lead the User Services department and to work with such an amazing group of individuals,” said Tamara. “In the last year User Services teams have demonstrated professionalism, resiliency, and flexibility as the organization changed to meet campus needs. We have enormous opportunities ahead of us supporting university faculty, staff, students, and affiliates in the evolving IT landscape at UW Madison.”

Tamara is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS in Chemistry and a UW–‍Madison graduate with an MS in Chemistry. She assumes the permanent role effective October 14.
