Gemini, Google’s conversational AI chatbot, is now available to UW–Madison faculty, staff and students. Gemini can answer questions, generate text, create images, summarize documents and help with tasks like writing emails or code.
Get started with Gemini
- Visit gemini.google.com/app
- Log in with your NetID credentials.
- If you’re prompted to enter an email address, enter your netid@wisc.edu email. You’ll be redirected to the NetID login page.
- After logging in, you’ll be asked to agree to Gemini’s terms of service.
- Click the “Chat with Gemini” button to start a chat.
Note: Your UW Google Workspace account only lets you access the Gemini chatbot via the web app. Gemini Education add-ons are not available at this time.
Data, privacy & accuracy
- Log in with your UW Google Workspace account to ensure your data is protected when using Gemini.
- Google will keep your data private and will not use your prompts or responses to train its AI models.
- Remember to enter only public data into Gemini—do not share any sensitive or restricted information.
- Google Gemini will not be 100% accurate every time. You are responsible for checking and validating AI-generated content before using it in your work.
