Teaching & Learning Data

Using data to help support our university partners

In Academic Technology, our goal is to make it easier for our colleagues to make informed decisions using clear and useful data.

For Instructors:

We focus on helping you understand how students learn so you can enhance your course design, content, delivery, and support strategies. Using existing tools and resources, we collaborate with you to identify ways to improve student success.

For instructional technologists and support staff:

We offer guidance on secure, sustainable methods for accessing and using teaching and learning data to support your goals.

Partner with us

Teaming up with an AT teaching and learning data specialist is a great first step toward identifying your goals and discovering tools and data that can help you reach them. We specialize in collecting, analyzing, and applying data to support teaching and learning.

Our areas of expertise include:

  • Tool and data knowledge
We support the tools that generate teaching and learning data and can help you understand how to access and interpret it effectively. We can also offer best practices for how to access data from those tools.
  • Data analysis
We interpret data to uncover insights–such as patterns in student performance and engagement–that can inform your decisions.
  • Reports and visualizations
We transform complex data into clear, easy-to-understand reports and visuals to support confident decision-making.
  • Customized solutions
We provide tailored recommendations, whether you need a one-time course-level report or a broader solution that benefits your department or the entire university.
  • Data governance
Our work primarily falls within the Teaching & Learning data domain but often spans into other domains as well. We follow UW–‍Madison’s data governance policies and authorization workflows, and we can help you navigate campus standards for responsible data access and use.
