As part of the Interoperability Initiative, DoIT is improving how we integrate person data (ie name, pronouns, email address) with IT systems at the university by creating an API. Short for application programming interface, an API is a modern way to exchange data through a documented specification. Technologists can use an API to integrate data into their applications.
The Access, Use, and Share Data website contains helpful information relating to the practices, tools, and policies relevant to integrating data at UW–Madison. This recent article on the site gives an overview on APIs and shows how the Person API is being created to meet the needs of the university.
