Data storytellers: Enter Bucky’s Data Viz Challenge

Can you tell a compelling story through data? If so, it’s time to show off your skills in the annual Bucky’s Data Viz Challenge. This challenge is part of Love Data Week and is sponsored by Data, Academic Planning & Institutional Research (DAPIR) and the UW–‍Madison Libraries.

Tell me more

Bucky’s Data Viz Challenge provides a platform for UW–‍Madison students, faculty, and staff to showcase their creative data visualization skills. Each year, student entrants are provided with a data set. This year’s data set and theme is school fight songs. Faculty and staff are welcome to submit an existing data visualization.

We encourage you to enter the competition if you are a:

  • Student
  • Data storyteller (perhaps a communicator or designer)
  • Researcher

A group of campus faculty, staff, and leadership will select one student and one faculty/staff data visualization to represent UW–‍Madison at the virtual BTAA Data Viz Showcase held during Love Data Week.

How to enter

Additional details on this contest, including how to enter, can be found on the Bucky’s Data Viz Challenge webpage. All entries must be received by 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
