On Monday, September 23, Microsoft released a critical patch for a security vulnerability found within Internet Explorer which could allow an attacker to take control of an affected system. DoIT Departmental Support is aware of the vulnerability and the patch. The Office of Cybersecurity has recommended that we apply this patch as soon as possible instead of waiting for our normal patch cycle to run. More information is available at the bottom of this message.
Prior to releasing the patch, we will be performing internal testing and analysis. We expect to apply the patch to managed customer systems within the next day. Patching Internet Explorer may require a computer reboot when completed; however, you will be notified in advance should a reboot be required.
If you have any additional questions regarding the change, don’t hesitate to contact us at support@doit.wisc.edu or 608-264-4357.
