Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is a secure, AI-powered conversational assistant that provides enterprise data protection to all UW–Madison students, faculty and staff at no cost when signed in with your NetID. Never enter sensitive or restricted data into Copilot.
Copilot Chat features include:

- Copilot Pages – collaborative workspace for building and refining content with AI
- File uploads – so you can work with your materials, data and notes
- Enhanced image generation capabilities
- Web search capability for comprehensive web research
- Agent access – discover and use AI agents through the Agent Store
- Chat history and conversation management
- Mobile app on iOS and Android
Copilot grants you access to Microsoft’s standard generative AI license. Your university license does not grant you access to Microsoft’s premium services, such as Copilot Pro and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Note: Microsoft has several products called Copilot. This product refers specifically to the chat version, which accesses the content in the app you’re currently using. Other versions, such as Copilot for M365, have different levels of access to content.
You are responsible for following UW–Madison and Universities of Wisconsin policies when using Copilot and other generative AI services.
