If you’re not using eduroam to connect to the internet, you’re putting your data at risk.

eduroam is UW–‍Madison’s secure wireless network, which uses end-to-end encryption that prevents cyber attackers from viewing and intercepting your “wireless traffic.” (e.g., your login username and passwords, the websites you visit.)

⚠️ Open networks

When you use “open” networks like UWNet or free Wi-Fi in coffee shops or other public places, your wireless traffic is not secure. Others may be able to view or steal the wireless traffic you’re generating.

Set up an eduroam profile

You can easily access eduroam using your NetID@wisc.edu and password. Once you set up an eduroam profile on your device, it will automatically connect when available. Take these steps to get started:
