Mission, values and history

Information Technology Leadership Development’s mission is to help UW’s IT community gain leadership skills and advance in their careers through MOR’s leadership programs. We are guided by these values:

  • Continuous improvement: Leadership is a skill that can be improved through practice.
  • Growth mindset: Personal growth and a willingness to change are critical to becoming an adaptive, strategic, and inclusive leader.
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging: Leaders foster environments that value the unique contributions and perspectives of others.

Information Technology Leadership Development was established in 2013 under the name “IT Leadership Program Forward” by MOR program graduates Brandon Bernier, Deborah Helman and Brenda Spychalla. Their goal was to make participation in MOR leadership programs more transparent and accessible across UW–‍Madison’s distributed IT community. Since then, the group has helped diversify participation and funnel alumni’s talents back into the campus community. IT Connects itself was conceptualized by MOR alumni, and many current and past members have participated in the programs. MOR leadership programs have been incredibly successful, with many UW alumni reporting transformative experiences through their participation in the program and occupying both formal and informal leadership roles across the university’s schools, colleges and divisions.
