Promoting IT leadership development training at UW–Madison
The Information Technology Leadership Development (ITLD) is a group of MOR Leaders Program and Lead From Where You Are alumni who facilitate and coordinate the university’s MOR leadership training programs for IT professionals. We focus on 3 areas: application and selection, applied learning during the programs and post-graduation engagement.
MOR Associates—a private firm that specializes in higher education leadership training—administers the training programs. Hundreds of UW–Madison IT professionals have participated in these training programs since UW began offering them in 2013.

Mission, values and history
Information Technology Leadership Development’s mission is to help UW’s IT community gain leadership skills and advance in their careers through MOR’s leadership programs. We are guided by these values:
- Continuous improvement: Leadership is a skill that can be improved through practice.
- Growth mindset: Personal growth and a willingness to change are critical to becoming an adaptive, strategic, and inclusive leader.
- Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging: Leaders foster environments that value the unique contributions and perspectives of others.
Information Technology Leadership Development was established in 2013 under the name “IT Leadership Program Forward” by MOR program graduates Brandon Bernier, Deborah Helman and Brenda Spychalla. Their goal was to make participation in MOR leadership programs more transparent and accessible across UW–Madison’s distributed IT community. Since then, the group has helped diversify participation and funnel alumni’s talents back into the campus community. IT Connects itself was conceptualized by MOR alumni, and many current and past members have participated in the programs. MOR leadership programs have been incredibly successful, with many UW alumni reporting transformative experiences through their participation in the program and occupying both formal and informal leadership roles across the university’s schools, colleges and divisions.
Information Technology Leadership Development is part of IT Connects, a coalition of volunteer IT professionals from across the university dedicated to breaking down silos by providing resources and opportunities for UW’s IT community to learn and grow together.
