If you haven’t updated your WiscWeb website to UW Theme 2.0 yet, you have until Dec. 31 to complete your migration or rebuild and relaunch your site. Sites still using UW Theme Classic after the deadline will go offline.

Migration is quicker than you might think

The migration tool converts most of your content automatically. You then review each migrated page, fix any issues, mark pages as completed and schedule your launch. WiscWeb says most lab or research sites have fewer than 10 pages and can be migrated in a day.

Your Classic site stays live until you launch the new one, so visitors see no gap.

Protect your content if you’re not ready

If you can’t migrate right away, download an XML export of your site as a safety net. The export captures post and page content. Media files won’t come in, but you’ll have a starting point if your site comes down before you migrate.

An export doesn’t replace migrating. It’s a backup.

What happens if you miss the deadline

WiscWeb will take your site offline, and it will become inaccessible. You’d need to recover content through the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine or rebuild it from scratch.

UW Theme Classic support ending

After October 30, WiscWeb will no longer support users with questions about UW Theme Classic.

This will let the team to focus on helping site owners with their migrations ahead of the Dec. 31 deadline.
