UW–‍Madison prepares for compliance with new federal rule on digital accessibility

This past spring, the US Justice Department released a new digital accessibility rule for the Americans with Disabilities Act that requires university digital resources used in university programs, services or activities to be accessible by complying with a technical standard starting April 24, 2026. This includes websites, videos, electronic documents (such as PDFs), Canvas courses and apps (such as ParkMobile, and Course Search and Enroll).

Executive sponsors have charged a Digital Accessibility University Coordination Committee (DAUCC) to identify institutional barriers and resources needed to comply with the new rule. A final report is due by the end of the calendar year.

You can learn more about digital accessibility by reviewing the “Make It Accessible” guides or connecting with your unit’s digital accessibility liaison.
