Congratulations to Dr Kim Arnold, who was recently promoted to distinguished director within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT)!
UW–Madison awards distinguished status to those who demonstrate an exceptional level of expertise in their field, and who are commonly recognized by their peers as a leader developing new approaches and methods within that field of practice and study. Dr Arnold was nominated for this award due to her scholarship and advocacy for the use of student-centered learning analytics in higher education.
Dr Arnold is the director of the Learning Analytics Center of Excellence (LACE), a unit within DoIT Academic Technology, and a nationally recognized data scientist and leader in learning analytics. LACE collaborates with units across the university on strategic teaching and learning data initiatives aimed at data-driven practices that support and enhance student learning.
She champions the ethical use of student data at UW–Madison and beyond, shaping guidance and standards through collaborations with Unizin, EDUCAUSE and others, advocating for the adoption of guiding principles across higher education.
Her scholarly expertise extends beyond higher education, as evidenced by her recent appointment to a panel for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The panel focuses on developing technology and data solutions that more holistically support student success.
Congratulations again to Dr Arnold from your colleagues at DoIT!
