Starting November 14: Student users in the UW–Madison instance of Canvas are no longer able to manually generate “access tokens” via the Canvas interface. Any UW–Madison student who wishes to use an access token will need to follow the request process as outlined in this KnowledgeBase (KB) article.
What are access tokens?
Access tokens provide access to Canvas resources through the Canvas API (application programming interface). Access tokens can be generated automatically for 3rd party applications or created manually.
Using the Canvas API allows the access token holder to access the same Canvas resources that you can access. For example: 3rd party applications, including devices you have used to open the Canvas Student app, are authorized to access Canvas on your behalf.
