Learn@UW–Madison – Introducing two new teammates
Learn@UW–Madison would like to introduce two new application administrators joining our team Monday, April 7.
Jess Richards comes from the UW–Madison Office of the Registrar, where she administered Lumen and components of PeopleSoft. Within Learn@UW–Madison, Jess will administer Career Services tools that are being transitioned to Learn@UW in partnership with the Office of Advising & Career Success (OACS).
Christian Broderick comes to us from the University of Maryland, where he managed the LMS and LTI integrations. He also spent a couple of years working for Kaltura as a Senior Solutions Engineer. Christian will administer Gradescope as we expand availability campuswide.

Canvas – Summer and fall course shell creation
Canvas course shell creation and enrollments for the upcoming summer and fall terms are happening soon. Summer course creation begins next Monday, April 7; fall course creation begins April 14.
Once generated, instructors are free to enter courses and begin development. Enrollment information will be updated every four hours.
HelioCampus AC – Evaluations begin April 18
For most courses, HelioCampus AC course evaluations begin Friday, April 18. HelioCampus AC departmental administrators should complete the setup of their evaluation instances, including assignment of course sections, by the end of the day Friday, April 11. For a refresher on the process, refer to this KnowledgeBase document.
Engage – Ordering for fall
For instructors intending to use Engage for fall 2025, the ordering period for eTexts and digital learning tools will remain open until Wednesday, May 28.

Course Design Institute, May 12 thru 14
An annual 3-day workshop aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of course design to result in a better learning experience. CTLM and campus teaching and learning partners will support you as you work on multiple aspects of your course.
Teaching & Learning Symposium, May 15
The biggest annual teaching event on campus! Keynote speaker Christina Katopodis, co-author of “The New College Classroom,” will present the latest science of learning and share teaching strategies that anyone can adapt easily and effectively in every field.
Enhancing Online Education Summer Programs
Designed especially for instructors teaching online and hybrid courses, these programs explore six foundational topics to promote student engagement and success. Sign up for as many topics as you like and choose from webinars, micro-courses or both. The series kicks off May 20 with our newest topic, developing instructional materials. Learn more and register.
Teaching at UW April programs
- Managing Flexibility Expectations, April 11 – Student expectations for assignment and assessment flexibility – assignment extensions and rewrites, rescheduling exams, and more – are changing. Join this session to discuss ways to proactively build sustainable flexibility into your course and say “no” when appropriate with compassion and confidence.
- Teaching with the Chazen, April 25 – Enjoy a special tour of the museum and learn about interdisciplinary partnership opportunities to bring works from the collection into your course.
