The Data Science Platform is an initiative that brings Data Science tools and resources to researchers on campus. An account will grant you access to Posit Team which consists of two services: a programming environment Workbench and a publishing platform Connect.

Why should you give the Data Science Platform a try?

The Data Science Platform runs in the cloud and offers a number of advantages. With an account from us …

  • You will be working in a familiar programming environment.
  • You can write, run, and publish your R and Python code using the RStudio IDE, Jupyter Labs/Notebooks, or VS Code. We support all major and minor updates of R > 3.4 and Python > 3.7.
  • You can access ResearchDrive directly from your session from your Workbench session.
  • You can leverage GitLab directly from within your Workbench session;  you can take advantage of version control and collaboration tools.
  • You can easily publish to Connect research artifacts such as Shiny Apps, reports, APIs, dashboards, and more.

We don’t want to tell you, we want to show you!

We are happy to prepare a demo for you and your department. Email us rstudiosupport@office365.wisc.edu

Terms of the Service

Eligibility

We currently have 25 concurrent slots for Workbench and 125 concurrent slots for Connect. Due to the limited number of seats available for each resource, we are asking users to estimate the amount of time they will need to use the service. When this time period is up and we run out of seats, their account will be locked to free up a seat for another user, but their account and content will still be available for future use.

Support and feedback

Due to the novel nature of this service, users should expect that they may have to work collaboratively with us to troubleshoot problems, like package installation. Additionally, users will also need to give feedback on the service.

Sustainability

Please be aware that the availability of the service is not guaranteed past May 2025, though we are working to make the Data Science Platform a permanent service.

We will work with users to transition any assets they have created out of the service if necessary.
