Domain Name System (DNS) converts friendly names (i.e. www.wisc.edu) into IP addresses to enable easier interconnection on the internet. We host wisc.edu and several other domains on behalf of UW schools, colleges and divisions.
Wired Campus Network Services encompasses all network infrastructure and internet access that supports the Campus Network, as well as select (leased/owned) off-campus facilities.
Citrix Netscaler is used to distribute or load balance service requests from a single (internet) public-facing IP address to a cluster of servers for service-request processing.
UW–Madison purchased the Palo Alto virtual firewall service with (Panorama) web interface to configure each firewall.
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service allows a host (PC, laptop, etc.) to dynamically connect to a UW network and automatically obtain a valid IP address, as well as other configuration parameters, thereby giving the host the ability to access Campus and internal networks.
Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a protocol designed to time-synchronize a network of machines. NTP runs on User Datagram Protocol (UDP), which, in turns, runs on IP. NTP appliances are used for this Stratum 1 service and are synchronized directly from GPS.
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) to support DoIT network electronics for departments that would like to install UPS equipment in their building’s wiring closets.
DoIT’s Microsoft Database Hosting Team provides a wide range of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database consulting and hosting options for your application.
Provides applications and systems architecture, design, engineering, and administration services to campus constituents with enterprise requirements.
In addition to technical expertise, enterprise system administration provides on-call support, monitoring and event management, 24/7 operations, incident response, and comprehensive IT service management.
