Sometime within the past couple of months, the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat DC begun incorporating the new Adobe licensing model, forcing users to use their federated ID to login before using the application. This update significantly impacted the usage of our current instance of Acrobat DC. Adobe Remote Update Manager (RUM), the process which keeps Adobe applications up-to-date, fails when trying to update Acrobat DC. As a result of this failure, Windows users may see an Adobe notification in the bottom right of the taskbar stating “Update Failed.” Adobe Acrobat DC will continue to work as normal, but it will not be the newest version.
We will continue to use the latest version of Acrobat DC that uses the old licensing model (v 19.8.20071.303822) because Adobe’s new licensing model is not ready for campus roll-out. When the new licensing model is ready, we will push the update to all machines running Acrobat DC. Until then, if a user questions this notification, please let them know that they should not be alarmed or concerned.
If you have any questions regarding Acrobat DC or the new Adobe licensing model, please contact HelpDesk Level 2.
