Dear Departmental Support Customers,
Oracle has recently made a change to their licensing for Oracle Java Standard Edition (SE) that affects standalone installations of Java 8 currently deployed amongst departmentally supported computers. As Java 8 is only used by a subset of machines in our environment, Departmental Support is working to remove unused installations of Oracle Java to ensure license compliance with Oracle.
On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, we plan to uninstall Java installations identified as inactive alongside our usual monthly updates. Please see KB document https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=92317 for additional information on this process and the future of Java 8 SE on departmental machines, including unaffected usages of Oracle Java.
