ITSM Tool Replacement Project update: sprints 13 & 14

Cherwell, the software that runs our IT service management (ITSM) tool known as WiscIT, will reach end-of-life on December 17, 2026, and will be replaced with the cloud instance of the Ivanti Neurons ITSM product.

The DoIT Service Management Subteam is an informal group that meets monthly to discuss tools and processes related to the DoIT Operational Framework and new developments in our ITSM tool.

Progress from the past month

In sprints 13 & 14, the team worked on the following topics:

  • Incident management: Linking an incident to an email
  • Configuration management: Configuration item (CI) linking and display of CI relationships
    Beginning test importing work of CI data into the Configuration Management Database (CMDB)
  • Problem management: Creating an outage and sending it to the outages page
  • Change management: Creating an outage from a change request
  • Service request: Experimenting with low, medium, and high complexity service request examples in partnership with Network Services

What’s next

Our next spring—sprint 15—will be a breather sprint. We’ll look at our broader project timeline and break down milestones into smaller tasks. This information will help us update our timeline and clarify upcoming work and stakeholder engagement.
