Efforts in the Division of Information Technology

Building an effective management team is essential for both team and organizational success. Effective managers are more likely to positively influence work environments, empower staff to further develop their own skills and improve productivity. This leads to increased staff retention, customer engagement and overall wellbeing, which benefits the University of Wisconsin as a whole. We are engaging current and future leaders through the following development opportunities:

Management Skills and Competencies Development program (MSCD)

The goal of the MSCD program is to provide a foundation for success by establishing and applying management best practices consistently across locations, departments, and workgroups within the division. Utilizing data-driven resources, the MSCD program provides a common language for skill development and a sustainable framework for managers to continue developing management competencies.

Whisper Wednesdays

This is an ongoing email series that offers a simple suggestion, or “whisper,” for a manager to try on their own, in one-on-one meetings or during team meetings. Email content focuses on wellbeing at work and upcoming skill development and training opportunities.

Employee engagement development opportunities

These sessions explore factors that influence engagement and how to use them as a lens to improve team culture and performance. A core component is providing guidance on how managers can use coaching conversations to connect, align, direct, motivate and engage team members every day. Managers are provided tools and insights to lead team conversations around engagement and continue action planning to maintain high engagement.
