Since 1979, Gartner has provided a wide range of industries research, data and insights to help professionals make informed, effective decisions. We’re pleased to announce that Gartner for Technical Professionals is now available for free to IT staff across UW–‍Madison. This guide contains details on the services available and how to access them.

What exactly is Gartner?

Gartner is a global business and technology research and advisory company supporting leaders across 15,000 organizations in over 100 countries. Gartner’s research documents, analysts and consultants provide indispensable insights, advice and tools needed to achieve mission-critical institutional priorities and to help build the organizations of tomorrow. Gartner for Technical Professionals (GTP) provides in-depth information and research for campus IT professionals in domains including technical planning and decision making, architecture and design, and technology assessment. More about GTP here.

How UW–⁠Madison Gartner for Technical Professionals works

Join the campus Gartner Group

If you’re a UW–‍Madison employee with an interest in learning more from Gartner for Technical Professionals, you can join the campus Gartner Tech Group. You don’t have to work at DoIT; you don’t need letters of technical certification behind your name. All you need is a NetID confirming your status as a UW–‍Madison employee.

  1. Go to the Gartner Tech Group join page.
  2. Click the red “Join Group” button.
  3. Watch for a confirming message in green toward the top of the page.

That’s it—you’re in!

Access your UW–‍Madison Gartner portal online

Once you’ve joined the Gartner Tech Group, access a wealth of content at gartner.wisc.edu, the UW–‍Madison Gartner Tech portal. Customize your portal according to role, industry or vendor. Choices include:

  • Applications—architecture, development, CRM & customer experience, digital workspace, integration, endpoint
  • Data & analytics—BI, data management
  • Infrastructure & operations—cloud management, data infrastructure, I&O
  • Security & risk management—Identity & access, apps & data, networks & endpoints, cloud
  • And more…

Schedule a 60-minute call with a Gartner expert

Need in-depth assistance? As part of the Gartner for Technical Professionals service, you can directly schedule a 60-minute call with a Gartner analyst. Here’s how:

Once you’re logged in to your Gartner portal, click “Schedule an Inquiry” under “Talk With a Gartner Expert” in the right column.
