Welcome, new Badgers! As you get settled on campus, there’s a handy tool you should know called UW–Madison Profile.
UW Profile empowers you to take control of how you appear in the university’s online services and shape your digital campus experience. Here are some things you can do with the app:
- Set your name: Want to go by your nickname or a different version of your name than what’s in your official records? Or is your name showing up in ALL CAPS? You can set your “name in use” in the UW Profile app. Your name in use will then show up in most digital places, like your class rosters, Canvas and university email. - Share your pronouns: You can choose to add your pronouns to many university digital services like Canvas and Zoom using the UW Profile app. Adding your pronouns will help your classmates and professors address you correctly. (Related: How to share your pronouns on UW’s online services)
- Share how to pronounce your name: You can help your classmates and instructors say your name correctly by recording the correct pronunciation. Use UW Profile to access NameCoach, where you can set up your pronouncer to add to your online profiles and email signature.
- Check your contact info: Make sure your phone number, address and emergency contacts are correct to ensure you receive essential university messages.
- Manage your security settings: UW Profile gives you quick access to manage your NetID password and multi-factor authentication preferences.
Visit profile.wisc.edu or navigate to the app via MyUW and log in with your NetID to get started. It’s a simple and easy way to take charge of your digital persona and make sure your university information is up to date. Take a few minutes to check it out and set things up how you like. It’ll make your UW experience smoother from day one.
