On Tuesday, October 14, Windows 10 will reach end of support. After October 14, Microsoft will no longer release security updates, bug fixes or feature updates, and will no longer offer technical support for Windows 10.
What should you do?
If you’re still using Windows 10, you should upgrade to Windows 11. Unsure which version you have? See the Windows-Determining Version KB for instructions on how to check.
To upgrade, follow the guidance below
If your device is managed by DoIT
- DoIT Departmental Support will contact you directly to coordinate an upgrade or install of Windows 11.
- Departmental Support Contract Partners can use the Windows 11 self-service upgrade option. This tool is only available through August 8 so be sure to upgrade by then.
- Contact the Contract Partner Help Desk with any questions.
If your device is managed by an IT department other than DoIT
- Your local IT staff will provide guidance on how your department will address this issue.
Personal devices
- You’re responsible for upgrading personal devices to Windows 11. The DoIT Help Desk will offer best-effort support to assist with the upgrade.

Why is upgrading important?
After October 14, Windows 10 will continue functioning but will no longer receive security updates, making devices vulnerable. Using unsupported operating systems can lead to potential security risks and other issues.
