Emails requesting reconfiguration going out now

Beginning Fall 2020, the UW-Madison Office 365 Team are sending emails to various populations at the university who we know will be affected by this upcoming change. If you have questions about the the following message and what it means to you, please contact Help Desk for additional assistance.

You are receiving this message because you have at least one mobile device accessing your UW–Madison email account using outdated email settings. Microsoft is releasing a security update that will stop your device from accessing your account soon. Update your email settings to continue accessing your UW–Madison email from your device.

What action is required of me now?
Reconfigure your email settings on any mobile device that accesses UW–Madison email.

What if I do nothing?
If you do nothing, you will eventually lose access to your UW–Madison email account on your mobile device.

Why is this important?
Microsoft is changing the way that email clients can access Microsoft 365 in order to increase security and reduce compromised email accounts. This effort will move all Microsoft 365 users to “modern email authentication” – and away from what is called “basic authentication” – by mid-2021.

I need help!
Keep track of our effort to inform people using UW–Madison email of these changes on our project page. We will continue to update this page through the life of the project.
