Have you checked out the new Teams?

Last fall, Microsoft released a new version of Teams for Windows and Apple devices. Microsoft recently announced that the “classic” Teams version (or “client”) will retire on Sunday, March 31, 2024. Beginning April 1, anyone still using classic Teams will be automatically updated to the new Teams client.

What should you do?

If you use the new Teams client…

  • You do not need to take action. Your Teams will continue working as expected.

If you use classic Teams…

  • You can continue doing so. On April 1, you will be automatically updated to the new version of Teams. You won’t be able to switch back to classic Teams after this date because classic Teams won’t be functional. Microsoft will attempt to uninstall the classic Teams client.
  • You can also switch to the new Teams client. To enable the new version, slide the “Try the new Teams” toggle located in the upper-left corner of your classic Teams for Windows desktop client, and follow the onscreen instructions.
