Google Groups

Google Groups is a service that can be used to send mass email, grant group members permission to Google files, collaborate with colleagues and more. We offer four types of Google Groups:

  • Standard group: Non-data driven group. Manually created
  • Custom group: Data driven groups based on HR/SIS/Manifest data
  • Class group: Data driven group based on course enrollment data
  • Advisor group: Data driven groups based on Registrar data

Benefits

  • Not owned by an individual UW–‍Madison Google Workspace account
  • Will not be deactivated if the creator leaves UW–‍Madison
  • Invalid or deactivated addresses are automatically removed
  • Files can be shared with a group instead of individuals
  • Group moderation is available
  • Membership can include both UW–‍Madison (internal) and non-UW–‍Madison (external) email addresses
  • Members can manage their subscription
