The Zoom Implementation team is currently working to migrate existing Zoom users with @wisc.edu email addresses into the new UW-Madison Zoom. If you receive an email from DoIT about migrating to UW–Madison Zoom, please take action so you don’t lose access to your Zoom files, appointments, and history.
To officially join UW–Madison Zoom and enjoy all the additional benefits and protections of the university contract, you must go to uwmadison.zoom.us and sign in with your NetID credentials via Single Sign On (SSO). If you have not signed in using SSO and NetID, you have not officially joined UW–Madison Zoom yet.
How can I tell?
- Log into uwmadison.zoom.us using SSO and NetID.
- If you receive an email saying you aren’t yet part of UW–Madison Zoom, log into uwmadison.zoom.us using SSO and NetID.
- If you are using Zoom and see “(Guest)” next to your name, you are not logged in. Go to uwmadison.zoom.us and log in using SSO and NetID.
If you don’t want to be part of UW–Madison Zoom, log into your personal Zoom account, access your settings and change that email address to a non @wisc.edu address (e.g., @gmail.com).
I got an email saying I’m not eligible for UW–Madison Zoom.
DoIT is also communicating with people who signed up for Zoom using a @wisc.edu email address but who are no longer affiliated with the university. These Zoom users are being encouraged to change their Zoom login email to a personal email account, such as @gmail.com. Service-eligible accounts include current faculty and staff members and currently enrolled students.
Why is this important?
DoIT recently announced the launch of UW-Madison Zoom and you now have the opportunity to migrate to the university licensed Zoom. UW–Madison Zoom has several advantages for collaborative communities, including single-sign on (SSO) with NetID and password, unlimited meetings with up to 300 participants, and additional features and enhanced security under the university terms of service. Individuals using a personal Zoom account with a netid@wisc.edu email address are being asked to migrate to UW–Madison Zoom or change the email address on their personal account. Over 20,000 personal Zoom accounts use netid@wisc.edu email addresses, but are not using the UW-Madison Zoom educational license.
