UW grads: Make sure your name is correct for spring commencement

Congrats on making it to the finish line, Badgers! Before UW–‍Madison’s spring 2026 commencement, take a few minutes to confirm your name is correct for your diploma — and, if you’re crossing the stage Friday, record your name pronunciation.

Check your diploma name for spring 2026 commencement

When you applied to graduate, you chose whether your diploma would display your legal name or your name in use. You can update that choice before the degree conferral date: May 10, 2026.

  1. Log in to MyUW with your NetID.
  2. Open the Student Center tile, then select Academic Records.
  3. Select Apply for Graduation, then Update Graduation Status.
  4. Review your diploma name and update it if needed.

Need to update the name itself? You can change your name in use in the UW–‍Madison Profile app, or submit a legal name change request through Student Center.

Record your name pronunciation

Doctoral, MFA and medical professional degree candidates have their names read at the Friday, May 8 ceremony. You must submit a phonetic pronunciation through Namecoach before your name card is printed.

Deadline: May 5, 2026

Names are not read at the Saturday, May 9 ceremony at Camp Randall Stadium.
