Engage helps students save on course materials: Fall orders open Mar 19

Engage seamlessly integrates digital textbooks (eTexts) and digital learning tools (DLTs) with Canvas courses, providing students with a cost-effective alternative to print materials. By using Engage, instructors help students save significantly while ensuring everyone has access to course materials from day one.

Key benefits include:

  • Immediate access: Digital materials are available on day one of the semester, ensuring all students have access to course materials at the same time.
  • Significant cost savings: eTexts are typically 40-80% off print retail prices, while DLTs are discounted 25-35%. Costs are bundled into tuition, making them financial aid-friendly.
  • Enhanced learning tools: Interactive features like in-text quizzing, highlighting and note-sharing promote student engagement and real-time feedback for instructors. Features differ depending on the publisher.

In spring 2025, 28,871 student enrollments across 179 courses and 393 lecture sections benefited from Engage, with 180 unique instructors participating. This resulted in $2.2 million in student savings compared to publisher retail prices. Since its launch in spring 2018 with support from the Associated Students of Madison (ASM), Engage has helped students save a total of $21.4 million on course materials. By adopting Engage, instructors play a vital role in reducing students’ financial burden while ensuring access to high-quality learning resources.
